COUNSELOR/THERAPISTS/LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH
PROFESSIONALS (FULL & PART-TIME)

Provide counseling, psychotherapy, and/or case management in a variety of settings (residential, nonresidential, clinic) and to a variety of client populations including (at risk youth and families, juvenile delinquents, mentally ill adults and youth, substance abusers). Most clinical services are provided from a cognitive and behavioral perspective and often require the use of non-traditional, assertive, and systems oriented work. Some positions require specialized training, licensure, and/or experience, e.g., in drug and alcohol treatment settings. The work typically requires some availability for evenings and/or weekend times as well as daytime availability. Clinicians are utilized in GUIDE projects located throughout the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan region. The positions most typically require a Master's degree and licensure as a mental health practitioner (LGSW, LGPC, LCSW-C, LCPC). Compensation may be by the hour or by salary and is competitive based on experience and previous training. Prior and existing vendorship status with managed care organizations and the Maryland Health Choice program is a plus.

GROUP HOME Supervisor

Qualifications: The Group Home Manager must have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized and accredited college or university and at least two years of experience working with the severely and persistently mentally ill in a residential setting. In addition, he/she must possess at least one year of supervisory experience and a valid driver’s license with no more that two points.

The Group Home Manager reports directly to the Group Homes Coordinator.

Duties: The Group Home Manager will be responsible for supervising the residential staff and ensuring that direct care services be performed with residents. The Group Home Manager will be responsible for conducting his/her job in conformity with the Policies and Procedures of the GUIDE Independence Program, as well as all relevant state and county regulations, and all recognized professional ethical standards.

Specific duties shall include, but are not limited to:

Interviewing, hiring, and firing (with approval of Group Homes Coordinator) residential group home staff.
Scheduling, monitoring, training, and supervising residential staff.
Monitoring the homes for cleanliness, maintenance needs, safety, and furnishings on a daily basis, and reporting necessary issues to the Group Homes Coordinator.
Assisting residents with activities of daily living and performing psychiatric rehabilitation services, as described in each resident’s Individual Rehabilitation Plan and entering Contact Notes for each service.
Conducting weekly meetings with residents to discuss their concerns.
Attending bi- weekly staff meetings.
Ensuring all scheduled activities and individual resident appointments are completed.
Organizing and arranging recreational activities for residents.
Maintaining a petty cash fund, collecting receipts, and monitoring the proper usage of petty cash.
Collecting staff time sheets, reviewing them for accuracy, and forwarding time sheets to the Group Homes Coordinator.
Monitoring the completion of all required documentation (i.e., contact notes, the daily log book, recreation log, visitation log, AA/NA attendance log, deployment sheets, service verification forms, etc.).
Ensuring that any scheduled urine screening samples are collected.
Purchasing or ordering supplies for residents, and staff, as needed.
Coordinating the completion of all fire drills.
Carrying a pager at all times, responding to pages from staff, instructing staff as to how to respond to the situation at hand, or contacting the other on-call staff member, as necessary, according to the protocol outlined in the Policy and Procedures Manual.
Creating a safe, supportive environment in which residents can learn the skills, they need to function independently.

REHABILITATION SPECIALIST

Qualifications: The Rehabilitation Specialist will have a Master’s Degree in a mental health field, or a Bachelor’s Degree with at least one year of experience in the psychiatric rehabilitation field working with individuals diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness. The Rehabilitation Specialist will have excellent oral and written communication skills and prior experience designing treatment plans and/or rehabilitation plans. He/she will possess a valid driver’s license with no more than two points.

The Rehabilitation Specialist reports directly to the Program Director (Montgomery County and to the PRP Director (Prince George’s County).

Duties: The Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for providing input for the Individual Rehabilitation Plans (IRPs) for those consumers assigned to him/her. The Rehabilitation Specialist is also responsible for the general areas of resident entitlements, medication, monthly health care, the IRP Progress Notes, development of community resources, and client services. The Rehabilitation Specialist will conduct his/her job in conformity with the GUIDE Independence Policies and Procedures, with state and county guidelines, and with professional ethical standards.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Participating in new client assessments; coordinating new Program residents’ transition schedules, in consultation with Program Director/Rehabilitation Director; and overseeing orientation of new residents.
Preparing a Consumer Information Sheet (formerly Face Sheet and/or Emergency Information Sheet) for each consumer on the date of his/her admission; updating the Consumer Information Sheet as necessary whenever there is any change in status or medications.
Assisting clients in applying for all monetary and health insurance benefits for which they are entitled. Working in cooperation with hospital social workers to secure all entitlements for which clients coming from the hospital setting are eligible.
Completing Client Fee Agreements, Entitlement Management Records, and Resident Housing lists as necessary for submission to the local CSA.
Linking clients to Day Program PRP services and providing liaison with these programs; maintaining lines of communication concerning consumers with all Day Programs, mental health clinics, and doctors’ offices.
Setting up client medical, dental, and psychiatric appointments, and maintaining a monthly appointments calendar.
Completing and posting daily Red Flag Sheets that include any transportation instructions.
Ensuring availability of resident medications; weekly auditing of Daily Medication Records, following up with residential staff concerning errors in documentation, and reporting same to the Rehabilitation Director/Program Director; reporting, in writing, all medication changes to Rehabilitation Director/Program Director; preparing monthly Daily Medication Records for all clients; and collecting medicine co-pays from clients.
Developing community resources for the benefit of the Program and individual clients.
Assisting with input for the timely submission of all necessary treatment plans to APS and ensuring that these plans meet the criteria for each consumer’s rehabilitation needs.
Completing assigned clients’ Monthly Progress Notes and submitting for review to supervisor within 45 days from the end of the reporting period; filing of Monthly Progress Notes within 60 days from the end of the reporting period.
Assisting residents in money management and entitlement management, including updating social services and social security for any changes in financial status; assisting consumers in the Supported Employment Program to understand entitlement modifications; and applying for Social Security work incentive programs.
Monitoring the substance abuse treatment component for consumers with identified alcohol or other drug abuse problems.
Attending inter-agency meetings with consumers, the local CSA, other providers serving the GUIDE consumers, and family members when necessary, to address special clinical or substance abuse issues pertaining to GUIDE Independence consumers.
Compiling, updating, and maintaining Client Data Files in accordance with all relevant COMAR regulations.
Attending bi-weekly staff meetings and providing input as to medication and clinical issues.
Contacting consumers’ family members, with consumers’ consents, regarding entitlement and clinical issues.
Carrying a pager, responding to pages from staff, instructing staff as to how to respond to the situation at hand, or contacting the other on-call staff member, as necessary, according to the protocol outlined in the Policy and Procedures Manual. (This duty is assigned only to the Montgomery County Rehabilitation Specialist who alternates first on-call with the Residential Coordinator.)

SCHOOL-BASED SITE COORDINATOR / CASE MANAGER

Youth Services /Linkages to Learning Program:

The Linkages to Learning school-based Case Manager/Site Coordinators, located in upper Montgomery County, MD, provide social services and case management as well as psychoeducational and literacy programming to families in area public schools. Similarly, and in collaboration with the Family Services Agency, Inc., the YSCs’ school-based mental health services provide diagnostic assessment and treatment to at-risk students and their families. Within these school-based services, special efforts are made to provide outreach and advocacy-based services to those new to this country. Most of the YSCs’ school and community-based sites have Spanish-speaking staff available for youth or family members for whom English is a second language.

Qualifications:

The School-Based Case Manager will possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) or a related field. He/she must have prior experience serving parents/families in need (internship experience considered). The individual must have a team player attitude with excellent collaboration skills. This position requires the employee to have reliable means of transportation.

The School-Based Case Manager should have experience working within collaborative school-based models of service delivery and prior experience/equivalent knowledge of immigrant populations & acculturation issues. He/she should have thorough knowledge of community resources in Montgomery County. Bilingual language skills are preferable (English/ Spanish, English/ French also desirable).

The School-Based Case Manager will report directly to the Case Management Supervisor.

Duties

Provide case management services to parents/families with economic and/or social needs such as housing, healthcare, employment assistance, food, clothing, education and other services

Maintain accurate and timely records of all services provided in charts

Conduct outreach & resource development

Assist Site Coordinator with psycho-educational, recreational and literacy programming for parents and families as appropriate

Function as part of both school and agency-based teams

Collaborate with site coordinator, therapist, school staff and community partners in providing comprehensive care

Maintains a minimum caseload of 35 families at all times (or equivalent pro-rated number if part-time employee)

Staffs at least one weekend outreach booth shift per year

Volunteer Opportunities

GUIDE Program, Inc. strives to be one of the premier behavioral health, social services, and juvenile justice agencies in the DC-Baltimore regions. Currently, GUIDE is looking for volunteers to assist at its residential programs for people with severe and pervasive mental illnesses to help the residents learn life skills and live more independent lives. The residents are all male and range in age from 13 to 24. There are a wide array of activities volunteers can participate in, depending on personal interest and age of the residents, but some general duties are listed below along with the ages of the clients and locations of the various programs.

Therapeutic Group Home

Ages 13-18
2 locations; Baltimore and Fort Washington
Assist staff with supervising clients during recreational outings
Provide additional support and mentoring to residents
Tutor in a variety of high school subjects and/or GED preparation
Provide positive role models for the residents

Transitional Age Youth

Ages 18-24
Located in Montgomery Village
Assist staff with supervising clients during recreation time both on and off the premises
Provide additional support and mentoring to the residents
Tutor residents for their GED or college class

Volunteers need to be comfortable working with this population and commit a minimum of two hours a week. The safety of our clients is our number one priority. Since they are a high-risk population, we run a background check that includes references, fingerprints, and Child Protective Services checks. Training will be provided.

YSC Mental Health Counselor (PART-TIME)

Qualifications:

The YSC Youth & Family Counselor will possess a Master’s degree in a human service field and possess a minimum graduate level license (LGSW, LGSC, LGMFT). He/She must have prior experience working with youth/ families (internship experience considered). This position requires the employee to have reliable means of transportation.

Skills include: bilingual language skills (English/ Korean), an independent & flexible work style, and a team player attitude. He/she must have a desire to work in community-based settings.

The YSC Youth & Family Counselor will report directly to the Director of Community-Based Prevention & Early Intervention Services.

Clinical:

Completes mental health and/or substance abuse assessments of children ages 5-18
Offers individual and family counseling
Follows up on referrals and provides case consultation
Leads psycho-educational groups in school or community-based settings on an “as need basis”
Consults with parents, school staff, and/or medical providers regarding child’s progress
Makes referrals for individual/family treatment (for those with access to outside resources)
Attends school and parent meetings (EMT, ARD, suspension, etc.) as indicated
Conducts community outreach via workshops/presentations, participation in community committees/workgroups, and outreach fairs
Crisis intervention
Supervise interns and/or group co-leaders as appropriate and/or assigned

Administrative:

Maintains client charts (to include all contacts, service plans, intake evaluations, termination summaries, etc.)
Documents billable sessions for clients in the public mental health system and collects fees from sliding scale clients
Compiles weekly staff record/statistics
Attends supervision and staff meetings
Attends GUIDE trainings and retreat
Staffs at least one weekend outreach booth shift per year

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in mental health field and graduate level license (LGSW / LGPC /LGMFT)

Prior experience with youth/families (internship experience considered)
Must have own transportation
